Founded in 1967, Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) is the oldest anti-tobacco non-profit in the U.S. and dedicated to building a world with ZERO deaths from tobacco. Thanks to dramatic reductions in smoking, that world – a world where cigarettes are no longer sold for profit – is within reach.
Cigarettes are the only consumer good that kills when used as their manufacturer intends. This has become normal in our society, but it shouldn’t be. It’s time to regulate cigarettes proportionate to the harm they cause, which means phasing out their sale. https://ash.org
Starting with Beverly Hills, CA this past June, we are providing technical assistance to cities interested in phasing out the sale of cigarettes in their communities and creating a safe space for smokers trying desperately to quit their nicotine addiction. We are setting the sun on big tobacco; learn more about Project Sunset here: https://ash.org/sunset
We’re excited to continue growing our other flagship program in 2020 on human rights. Many global treaties and 100+ national constitutions protect the right to health; that right is violated by the marketing and sale of cigarettes. ASH uses those treaties and constitutions to spearhead new local activism to encourage governments to phase out the commercial sale of tobacco products and in turn protect their citizens’ fundamental right to health. We will continue expanding this work to more and more countries in 2020.

As a non-profit organization, we are always looking for ways to cut our overhead costs and use more and more donor dollars on our life-saving programmatic work. Metro Offices has been a major savings for us, meaning we are able to have an even bigger impact in the movement to end the tobacco epidemic.
